The Royal Project Foundation was
set up to help assist the hill tribes of northern Thailand in
replacing Opium fields with alternative crops. It was the world’s
first project aiming to replace drug crops with legal crops and is
one of the most successful projects of its type, created originally
by His Majesty the King in 1969.
The main achievement of the Royal
Project is that it has totally eliminated the cultivation of opium
poppy in it development areas, whilst simultaneously improving the
standards of living of the former opium farmers.
The Blue Elephant Group’s founder and Master Chef, Khun Nooror
Somany Steppe, has produced an exquisite selection of dishes based
on a wide range of ingredients from the Royal Project Foundation’s
produce. A Press launch for this exclusive new menu took place on
Thursday 12th June which included official delegates from the Royal
Project, Blue Elephant Group and members of the press.
